Thanks to additive manufacturing and the wide variety of materials available today, it is possible to manufacture molds for thermoplastics, thermosets and blow molding materials directly by 3D printing.

This webinar, which we are conducting together with our partner Nexa 3D, will provide an overview of the current state of the technique, the potential of using additive manufacturing and the most suitable materials for manufacturing molds.

  • When we talk about additive manufacturing or 3D printing, it is often described as an alternative to traditional means of production. However, if we only think of 3D as a tool for producing large-scale parts in the distant future, we are overlooking important applications that can already be realized today.

Additive manufacturing is already proving to be a very useful tool also in the mold and die industry. It is worth exploring all its various applications and technologies to improve one’s workflow.

  • Most plastic products in existence today are manufactured by injection molding. Molds are among the most complex mechanical elements to design. Making them by the traditional method can be prohibitively expensive and time-consuming.

Fortunately, molds do not always have to be made of metal: in this webinar we will discuss the alternative possibilities offered by 3D printing.

We will present what we consider the most powerful product currently in Molding and Nexa’s most disruptive materials. For this we will have Lasse G. Staal, Business Development Director for the brand.

  • We will have an overview of molds for thermoplastics, thermosets, blow molding, etc., but also of the alternatives that additive manufacturing offers to molded production. Can 3D printing also be used for direct production of pre-series and small batches?

  • There will be real examples of companies that have already successfully used 3D printing to manufacture molds (Pepsi, Alstom).
